Week 1 2011 Recap

The 2011 eSFL season week 1 concluded last night with two Monday games and and lots of exciting finishes across the board. Week  1 outcomes were a lot closer than could be anticipated and in the end, a couple of teams identified themselves as contenders. Lets get to the recaps.

Week 1 GAME OF THE WEEK

Runners 156.28    Rednecks  154.82

What can we say about this one. We could start with the fact the McKinney teams performance most likely was an annomally rather than the norm for the season. Of course almost everyone can say they wish they would have started another guy, but not this team. They don't have another guy as they are about 6 guys below the roster max. Head coach Rhodes of the Runners was watching every second of this game like his life depended on it as he went to bed late Sunday thinking how fortunate he was, it crossed his mind he may still lose the game as stats could be adjusted across the league.  His team, the winners, were led by first round draft choice Calvin Johnson with 26.8 and running back Tim Hightower's 22.2. The real difference here turned out to be the Runners' defensive unit who posted 48 points led by J. Allen's 17. The losing squad was led by Ed Reed and his 28 points. Team owner McKinney was laughed at and ridiculed for selecting Reed midway through the draft when most believed the player would have been available in training camp. However, considering the Redneck team did not hold a training camp this season his choice became one of less debate. Offensively the Rednecks were led by quarterback Colt McCoy's 24.72. When a game is decided by less than 2 points there are many plays that made the difference but the one in this contest that stands out is a dropped pass by L. Tomlinson Sunday night that would have been a winning catch most likely. The Rednecks try and rebound next week against the 1-0 Ruskies while the Rhodes team holds their first home opener in Mouse Park in three years gainst the 1-0 Pardue Bruisermakers.

Other games across the league:

Zima 154.06    Frost Furrious Flurries 99.82

The Zima Ruskies opened the season with a win thanks to Drew Brees' 43 plus points and running Back Reggie Bush's 25.5. Bush performed as many expected the past few seasons but the expectations never materialized. Maybe this is the year, and if so, the Ruskies will be a team to contend with. The Flurries were the only team in the eSFL this week to score less than 100.

D Crownholder 175.58   Temp's Texas Boy's 166.1

166 points wins in the eSFL 82 percent of the time over the past 3 years, but the Texas Boy's found out what the other 18 percent felt like when they didnt win. The Crownholders started things off on Thursday with Aaron Rodgers posting 38.38, added in some Sunday points with J. Peppers' blowing up with 21.5, and finished things off on Monday with D. McFadden's 18.8. McFadden carried the ball 22 times for 150 yards and could be the wild card in the 2011 season for the Crownholders. The Temp team was led by quarterback Stafford's 35.1.

Bruisers 151.7 Workhorse 149.9
The second closest contest of the week saw the defending champion Whitmore White Workhorse fall to the Texan Bruisers by 1.8 points. The Bruisers pulled off the win by holding off Monday nights Workhorse performers, Branch (8.5) and Bess (14.2). Surely both owners were on the edge of their coaching seats as these games progressed, but the Bruisers' 33.8 from Ray Rice and 30.6 from Kenny Britt proved enough. The Workhorse were led by quarterback Phillip Rivers and his 27.3 points in a losing cause. "We will rebound, 150 points is a good show from our crew and we expect to win many games with those numbers in 2011", stated head coach Chris Whitmore after the contest.

Kavanators 187.46  Fanatix 156.68
Ron Kav saw his team defeat the Fields Fanatix and coach Bruce Fields for the first time in 7 eSFL contest. The Kavanators' watched the Fanatix' Tom Brady put up a near record 51.98 points Monday night but had little to worry about as it took place. His reason for relaxation rested solely on the fact Brady was throwing to guys on Kav's team and making the Fanatix comeback all but impossible. With all the negativity about the Fields team in the pre season, he showed nay sayers why he is a future hall of famer by posting 156 points with a rag tag unit. Kav was led by Wes Welkers's 36 and Joe Flacco tossed in 32.86 for the hell of it. Head coach Fields said after the game, "We knew coming into the season our running back situation needed an upgrade, and we still know that 156 should win, it didn't, so we move on. F$%^ Ron Kav and I am not going to congratulate the bastard".

Perdew 170.78  Igama 118.16
The Sweaty Palms of Igama began the season in 2011 as they finished their last in 2005, with a loss. The Pulverizers showcased Mike Vick (30.58)  and L. McCoy (30.2) to 170 plus points and an easy victory. The two combined for 35 percent of their teams output.
Igama's only positive for the week was tight end Hernandez with a team leading 23.3.

Pardue 175.18  Vigilante 150.7
Both teams started the 2011 season as they did the last one. Pardue continued to win and Viall went into the losers row once again. Viall showed a little spunk in this one, something that their fans rarely saw last season, but in the end the Bruisermakers pounded them into submission. Pardue was led by Tony Romo (25.48) and eight other players in double digits. The losers were led by none less, their kicker with 29 points and a record tying 63 yard field goal.
