RFA IR RULING

A RFA eligible player was placed on a teams IR this week. The commissioner thought it was necessary to get a ruling from the applicable division president to decide whether this action voided the players RFA status. Below is the result of the inquiry.

The commissioner has interpreted the Appalachian Division president`s (Matt Templin) ruling as such:
The Appalachian President, Matt Templin has ruled in his opinion:

1. The season has not started yet and does not start until NFL kickoff. If the intent of the rule is the player can never be placed on IR the rules need to be amended to state such.
2. The action did not cause harm on any eSFL team and did not effect the intent of restricted free agency .

The only negative impact from this action is the commissioner identified to the Viall team that his placement of the player on the IR wold void his RFA status. Had the commissioner not identified this to the owner would he have remained on his IR until the season had started?
Recommend that owners know and understand the bylaws and guidelines.

Therefore, I recommend the corrective action as:
If the Vigilante ownership had intentions to remove the player from the IR before the NFL season started he shall be able to do so.

However, if he had no intentions to do so and was unaware that the player must be on the active roster for the entire season, then he should not be able to remove the player from IR and loses his RFA status for next season.

End of Appalachian Division President ruling

Commissioner ruling:
The ruling is the season starts on NFL kickoff therefore placing him on the IR before then does not void his RFA rights as long as the player is on the active roster the entire season. The commissioner leaves it up to Viall to honestly abide by the division presidents ruling above. He may remove him from the IR for the 5$ IR removal fee. He may retain his RFA rights IAW the bylaws and guidlines.
