eSFL Recaps-Week 3, 2011

Rednecks route Flurries behind Mathews
Rednecks 167.80  Flurries 91.44

Ryan Mathews scored twice, and the Rednecks overcame James Harrison and Andre Johnson's big day to move to a 2-1 start for just the fourth time in Dan McKinney's eight seasons as coach. Mathews ran 21 times for 98 yards and caught four passes for 51 to lead the team with 35. The Flurries fall to 0-3 and have been beaten by opponents scoring an average of 165 plus in their first two games. They became the only team that failed to reach 100 points this season, unfortunately they have accomplished the feat twice already. "As poorly as we performed today it isn't as bad as it appears this season, we have really fallen prey to scheduling misfortune", stated coach Jeff Frost after the loss.

Fields' Brady guns down the Vigilantes for first win of season
Fields 143.78 Vial 129.10

Team captain Tom Brady (38.08 points) lit up the Vial Vigilante (0-3) defense despite four interceptions and running back A. Bradshaw (26.4) pounded his opponent to their second straight 0-3 start. Bradshaw finished with 15 carries for 86 yards, 5 receptions for 53 and one touchdown.  Vial fought hard on Monday night but quarterback Rex Grossman (14.60) came up short of the mark to take down the Fanatix.  Free agent pickup Morgan Burnett led all scorers for the Vigilantes with 23.5.  The big rumor floating around in the eSFL following this game is that coach Fields may secretly be shopping Tom Brady!  Insider correspondent Josh Perdew will keep everyone posted if any late breaking news occurs.

Runners hold off hard-charging Crownholders for 2-1 start
Runners 159.76 D Crownholders 143.58
Calvin Johnson (29.8) demonstrated why he should have been drafted in the first round this year with his third straight game with at least two scores and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (28.56) continued to surprise as the Runners (2-1) held on for the win. The Crownholders entered Monday evening in position to get their second win of the season needing 33 points but were unable to meet the challenge despite Darren McFadden's (36.7) and Aaron Rodgers' (34.88) super performances. Good teams get better down the stretch and the Crownholders likely will fit into such a category as the season progresses. They have lost twice in games they scored more than 140 points.

Kavanators fall short of all time eSFL record with near 80 point defeat over Texans
Kavanators 213.06 Bruisers 136.92
Quarterback Joe Flacco (41.76) was great in week three but his performance took back seat to the heroics of  Wes Welker (51.7) who broke the eSFL wide receiver single game scoring record of 51.1 points. The previous mark had been set by by Kevin Curtis in week three of the 2007 campaign. The Bruisers got 48 points from their defense and were led offensively by quarterback Matt Schaub's (36.32) three touchdowns in defeat. It's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback and wonder why running back Daniel Thomas was on the bench with 23.5 points in favor of Ben Jarvis Green-Ellis, but the outcome would have remained the same regardless who the Texan team had in their lineup. Both teams move to 2-1 on the season.

Sweaty Palms let victory over Texas Boys slip away
Temp 176.82 Igama 160.00

The Global division proved once again that they are the better division as the Temp's Texas Boy's (2-1) sent the Igama Sweaty Palms (1-2) to their second loss of the season. Felix Jones put up a solid performance on Monday night with 19.9 points, but came up short of the much needed win for Coach Igama's team. Temp was lead by Matt Stafford's 33.12 points and a nice game from wideout Mike Wallace (25.4) with 5 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.  Igama got 23.2 from Nate Washington and 22 from defensive leader Jason Pierre-Paul in the losing effort.

Bruisermakers remain perfect despite injuries
Pardue 144.30  Zima 132.40
The Pardue Bruisermakers seemed to be playing the entire week in the shadow of their own goalposts but pulled off another win and remained only one of two unbeaten teams in the league. Entering the game with massive injuries, tight end Jimmy Graham (20) stepped up and led the Bruisermakers to victory. The remaining starters bit and pieced enough points together to send the hard luck Zima Ruskies to a disappointing 1-2 start. For the Ruskies running back Beanie Wells failed to play and head coach Jesse Zima was unable to replace him before the weekly deadline. It proved to be the difference in the contest and is a perfect example of bad coaching and how it can effect the outcome of these contest.

Workhorses and Pulverizers to the wire, winner winner, chicken dinner!
Pulverizers 162.24 Workhorse 157.44

Game of the week, nail-bitter all the way to the end.....Santana Moss (12) failed to lead the comeback for the Whitmore Workhorse (1-2)  team!  The Perdew Pulverizers win the closest game of the week and remain unbeaten at 3-0.  They were led by running back LeSean McCoy (26.5) and got much needed help from their defense with 46 points. You wonder how much punishment a team can absorb with injury prone players and drug addicts. Coach Perdew lost their kicker Billy Cundiff to a knee injury.  Hell, we have more problems than that, we got drug issues, and a bunch of lazy ass players that need to get their act together!  We demand perfection and our team is a bunch of misfits! I got a lot of work to do this week to thin out the bums and get ready for our doubleheader this week."
