Tiebreaker Rules changed:2012 Season

This season the league has come to realize the current tiebreaker system was inadequate. Our current system had to be revisited last week to ensure we were prepared for more than two teams in a division being tied for playoff spots.  After reviewing the current rules it was determined the league rules were not written to cover tie situations concerning more than two teams. The commissioner then refered to the NFL multi team tie rules and implemented them for this season. After further review that system is deemed inadequate for future seasons. However, I would like to point out that using the new tiebreaker rules that start in 2012, our 2011 playoff teams would have still remained the same. The procedure we used this season was:

The current tiebreaker system will remain in place and will be used If two teams are tied for one playoff spot. It (will be added)  (will be removed) reads:

(Two teams tiebreaker procedure)

K: TIEBREAKERS
(Season Standings) To break a tie for season standings for playoff positioning between two teams: If it is necessary to break ties to determine the playoff teams from each division, the following steps will be taken:

1. Best winning percentage
2. Head-to-Head, if applicable (all teams in a tied group must have played all other teams in the tied group) 3. Best Division record
4. Best Non-Division Record

4. Most points fielded on the season
5. Best net points in division games.
6. Best `What if` vs everyone (renumbered from 5)
7. Best `What if` vs Season Average (renumbered from 6)
8. Best `What if` vs Weekly Average (renumbered from 7)
9. Best net points in division games. (Moved to number 5.)10.Best net points in all games. (Moved to number 4)9. Strength of schedule. (based on winning pct of opponents) (renumbered from 11)
10.Best net TDs in all games. (renumbered from 12)
11. Coin Flip (renumbered from (13)

SO, the tiebreaker for standings and playoff spots between two teams will be:

1. Best winning percentage
2. Head-to-Head

3. Best Division record
4. Most points fielded on the season

5. Best net points in division games.
6. Best `What if` vs everyone

7. Best `What if` vs Season Average
8. Best `What if` vs Weekly Average
9.Strength of schedule. (based on winning pct of opponents)
10.Best net TDs in all games.
11. Coin Flip

This season to break a tie between more than two teams we:
1. Head to head sweep
2. repeated process from remaining teams until all playoff spots are filled
3. If two teams are still tied for a playoff spot return to the K TIEBREAKERS section for two teams
4. If more than two teams are still tied we repeated the process.
5. Nothing in place if more than two teams are still tied.

In this seasons method we had as an example:
Temp 10-4
Pardue 8-6
Zima 8-6
D 8-6
Rhodes 8-6

So using the tiebreaker rule for more than two teams we asked, DID ANY OF THESE TEAMS SWEEP EACH OTHER HEAD TO HEAD?
Pardue swept Rhodes 2-0
Zima swept D 2-0

Therefore Pardue and Zima are in.
But we still have one remaining spot left so we go to the two teams that were in the tied group bit eliminated, D and Rhodes.
We use the TWO TEAM TIE PROCEDURE since there are only two teams for one spot.
Head to head-1-1
Best division record-D 7-5,  Rhodes 6-6
Therefore D eliminates Rhodes and is in for the final playoff spot.

Next season to break a tie between more than two teams we:
Note: after a team has qualified for a playoff spot the process must return to step one to determine any remaining playoff spots using the remaining teams.

Use the TWO TEAM TIE PROCEDURE (K TIEBREAKERS ) if two teams remain for remaining playoff spot after any step

1. Best division records
2. Best combined record versus all teams tied in the group.
3. Head to head sweep
4. Tie Breaker Formula:
For each week a team scores in these categories they earn or lose the allotted tiebreaker points for a total point value.
a. 0-80 points (Minus 3)
b. 81-90 points (Minus 2)
c. 91-100 points ( Minus 1)
d. 101-124 points (Zero)
e. 125-135 points (1)
f. 136-146 points (2)
g. 148-157 points (3)
h. 158-168 points (4)
i. 169-179 points (5)
j. 180-190 points (6)
k. 191-200+ points (7)
5. Total division points fielded for the season
6. Total points fielded entire season
7. Best "What if versus everyone"
8. Best "What if versus season average"
9. Best What if versus weekly average"
10. Best Power Ranking
11. Best Value Ranking
12. Best YTD Coaching Efficiency
13. Lowest draft order
14. Most seasons in the league
15. Random draw generator

Remember, at any point when a team or teams break the tie, any remaining playoff spots will be determined starting at step one (3 or more remain). If two teams remain and a tie is still required to be broken use the (K TIEBREAKERS )

Using this tiebreaker this seasons playoff teams would have been the same using the 2011 procedure because of division records.
