Halfway Point Report-Chaz Templin-2013

Well we are at the halfway point of the season, we have some surprises and some teams that are where they always are. We have teams that are in great position to make a run at the title and some that are just about eliminated from playoff contention. We are going to take a team by team look starting with the teams in the Nebula conference.

Let’s start with the Orion division and the 1st place Houston Rams. This is their 1st year in the league and they are proving that they have a clue about how to play in this league. They are averaging an impressive 174 per week after 6 games. They are winning games with balance as they only have 1 player in the top 10 at any position and that is Drew Brees at QB. They are averaging 41.7 points on defense which will keep you in most games. The question is can they keep it up without any real stars besides Brees. Their 67-41 record against everyone shows that this team is for real. I lean towards the Rams at least finishing the year 1st or 2nd in this division.
The Brady Bunch are in a tie for 2nd place in the division at 4-2. After winning their division last year they are trying to repeat this year but have some tough competition in order to win the division a second time. This team is made up of no real stars and is going to rely on the production of RG3 and a decent WR group and Demarco Murray. I see this team finishing in a playoff in position but don't expect them to go far once they get in.
The other team in a tie for 2nd place in the division is the Wallie's Texas Stars. This is the 3rd lowest scoring team in the conference yet somehow they find themselves sitting at 4-2 and in prime position to claim a playoff spot. The question is can they keep winning with the low points they put up. We have to remember that this is a team that looked like they had no chance of making the playoffs last year but went on a run and got in. Their QB play has been terrible to say the least, they had high expectations coming in for Kaepernick but he has yet to produce anything since week 1. They made a great move by getting Thomas before he became one of the best fantasy TEs in the league. If he can have Gore and Foster start putting up 20 a week this team will compete for the championship this year if not they will be an early playoff lose.

Next up we have the Bakken Oilers at 3-3. This team has 2 QBs that can put up huge numbers or can kill you, they just have to hope the one of them puts up the big numbers and not the INTs like they are prone to do. They have 2 strong WRs and a strong RB which I believe will give them enough to make the playoffs but the key to this team is going to be QB play, without a consistent 20-25 points a week this team will be in jeopardy of not making the playoffs.
Now we come to Orange Crush at 3-3 as well. This is the lowest scoring team in the conference and it is really easy to see why. They have a bunch of garbage on their team. Their best players are Russell Wilson and Jordan Cameron. They have decent RBs but all of their WRs are underachieving this season. Without a drastic change from the WRs position and T-Rich stepping up this team has no chance of making the playoffs. Even if all of those things go their way I still don't think they are one of the top 8 teams in this conference and don't see them making the playoffs.
Now to Flish's Crazy Daizys at 2-4. Let's just say that this team is pathetic everywhere except QB. They have 2 guys in the top 10 and would be smart to trade one of them for some help at other positions. They have 0 good RBs and right now Welker is the only WR that is worth a damn on this team. This team is doomed for failure unless they unload one of the QBs for some help at RB and WR. As of now I don't believe they have a snow balls chance in hell of making the playoffs. Now if they are able to make a trade that stance might change but not likely.
Now to last place in the division and the F.B. Rubber Duckies at 1-5. Plain and simple this team is terrible. They have a good QB with Luck but the good players stop there. Doug Martin has been a huge disappointment this year and with the status of his team I don’t see that changing. His has a decent WR depth but with Schuab throwing the ball to the wrong team every game is it hard for Johnson to put up big numbers. Unless Martin steps up and can be half the player he was last year this team will be playing in the Gunner Cup and that is about it. If Martin steps up they might have an outside chance at making the playoffs.

Now let’s go to the Helix division where the division leader is the 5-1 Dlugiewicz Fight'n Pollacks. Let’s just be honest they have Peyton Manning and this year that should be enough to get any team to the playoffs with any sort of help from anyone else on the team. But making the playoffs is about all this team will do because after Manning everyone else is pretty much garbage. Their RBs aren't reliable at all, and their best WR is hurt and hasn't been the same all year, but with Gronk coming back they might get the 2nd big producer that they need to lead to a championship berth. Time will tell how good Gronk is and that is what is going to determine if this team will go far, but they will make the playoffs.

Then we have the Psycho Billiecats at 4-2 and the highest scoring team in the entire league. This is a pretty solid team but like every team in the league has it weak spots. It has good QB play with Stafford and a great RB in Charles but there is no real 2nd RB and the WRs mediocre at best. But they have the best TE in the league which helps make up for the weak WR position. Their defense is also solid with most of the defenders in the top 20 at their position. This is a team that if the WR play can improve is a definite championship contender. I think this is going to be your division winner and could very well play for the title this year.

The Snoop Wiz Kings are sitting at 3-3 and in a 3 way tie for 3rd at this point in the season. This team is lead by it RB play with Mccoy and Reggie Bush both having good seasons. They also have good WRs that just aren't putting up the numbers they usually do but I think they will turn that around. But they are weak at the QB position and that could be what cost this team a shot at doing anything. They are currently carrying 4 QBs none of which are worth wasting my time mentioning. I can see this team getting into the playoffs but if one of the QBs don't step up they will be an early exit.

Now to Klimko K's which are currently 3-3. This team is led by Romo who is having a great season as far as fantasy goes. This team has a solid WR group with Megatron, Boldin, and Brandon Marshall, but as good as they are at WR they are just as bad at RB. Matthews has done nothing all year and neither has Miller. Without one of his back stepping up it will be a rough road ahead for him to make the playoffs.
The Legendary Humaniod team sits at 3-3 as well. This team has talent but does it have enough to make the playoffs. They are going to need Brady to step up his game which might happen with the return of the Gronk. He has good RB play with Forte and Jackson the key is them staying healthy. He WR are decent but not great. This team has the talent to make the playoffs but how far they can go will depend on the WR position putting up numbers.

The Money Team is sitting towards the back of the standing at 2-4. Eli Manning has been a disappointment for this team so far and without any line help I don't see him getting any better. He has 2 solid RBs but if 1 goes down he has no backups to speak of. In order for this team to have any shot at making a legitimate playoff run they are going to have to have another WR step up to help D. Thomas out, otherwise they will be with the rest of the losers in the Gunner Cup.

And finally to the worst team in the entire league the Miami Brownskins. This team has a good QB in Matty Ice but what is he going to do without his best WR and his other WR hurting, I see his production starting to drop off, which could lead to the Brownskins not winning a game all year. This team is in trouble with their WRs underachieving and only 1 RB worth a damn. This team has ZERO chance of making the playoffs and will be gone after the 1st round of the Gunner Cup, time to start planning for next season.

So to recap in the Nebula Conference I see the division winners being the Rams and the Billiecats with the Brady Bunch, Pollacks, Texas Stars, Oilers, the Kings, and the final team being the Humaniods.

Now let's get to the Vintage Conference where we will start with the Global division and co-leader at the half-way point Pardue Bruisermakers who are 5-1 coming off a loss last week. This team is a definite playoff team but then again they are every year. They are the highest scoring team in the conference and are led by Jimmy Graham. The biggest question with this team is Vick and his health, without him they don't have much at QB. His WRs aren't great but they are serviceable which will be enough to get him to the playoffs.

Next up are the defending champs Zima Ruskies also at 5-1. They have a lot of issues even though they are 5-1. Matt Ryan has lost his favorite WR so his points will go down. He has no RBs that are worth anything, at least he has WRs depth that can try to hide his short comings at RB. The defense might be what carries this team to a 2nd straight berth in the championship game. This team is definitely a playoff team but other than that there is no telling.
Now to the Frost Flurries sitting at 4-2. They have Aaron Rodgers at QB enough said. They also have a good RB core with Forte and Gore, but they are weak at WR with no one really putting up big numbers so far this year. But this team is good enough to get a playoff spot but the question is will it be enough in a tough division. They will need someone to step up at the WR position in order to make it in. Without that happening they will be a Gunner Cup participate and that will be about all.

The Rhodes Runners also sit at 4-2 and are coming off an impressive win over previously unbeaten Pardue. They have the best player that fantasy football has seen in a very long time in Peyton Manning. But that is about where his team stops being good besides his TE. I realize he has won 4 games already but it has all been won by Manning and a bunch of scrubs. This team is going to need to have a WR step up otherwise this great start might be wasted and not even make the playoffs.

Now we get to the weak part of the division. Starting with the 2-4 Temp's Texas Boys who are basically giving up on the season and trying to trade away their entire team except for their restricted free agents they are keeping for next year. Their QBs are weak at best and their RBs have been disappointment after what Temp thought was a good draft. This team doesn't have a chance of making the playoffs unless every other team suffers significant injuries.
Now we come to the R.R. Rough Riders at 2-4 as well. This team is hoping and praying that Cam Newton can put up the numbers he did at the end of last year in order to make a playoff push. He has a solid back in Foster but CJ is not what he was a few years ago and it doesn't seem like he will get back there. His WRs are garbage with no real stars and his defense hasn't put up the numbers expected of them. This team is Gunner Cup material and that is about all.
D Crownholder is sitting at 1-5 and the reason is they took Kaepernick as the 1st QB off the board instead of taking Manning or Brees. The only bright spot on this team is Murray who has a tendency to get hurt towards the end of the year. His head was up his ass when he drafted and he has yet to pull it out, so he has no chance of seeing the playoffs this year.

To the Appalachian Conference which is also tied at the top, we will start with Kav's Kavanators who talk a lot of shit but haven't really proved they are ever any good in this league. Kav is hoping that Eli will step up and put up the numbers he did last season but with the line he has it is doubtful that will happen. He has a solid stable of RBs which are making up for his lack of QB play. He has 2 good WRs just needs a 3rd to step up and give him 15-20 points every week. This team with the RBs they have are capable of making the playoffs but after that it is very questionable.

The other team tied for the division lead is the Igama Sweaty Palms also at 4-2. RGIII has put up decent numbers even though his team isn't winning but the question is can he stay healthy throughout the season. This team doesn't have any RBs that are even worth talking about but they are deep at the WR position. They are going to need someone to step up at RB to have any chance at winning this division. Lucky for him that Julio Jones is out for the season and White is hurt should mean a lot more points for Gonzalez. I think they will make the playoffs but I don’t think they are capable of winning the division or many games in the playoffs.

Now to a bunch of 3-3 teams and we will start with the Perdew Pulverizers. They are set at QB with Luck, which they got from restricted free agency last year. They have 1 great RB and then a bunch of bums after that. They need someone to step up and give them some production at the position besides Mccoy. He has possibly the best set of WRs in the league with Cruz, Green, and Jackson. That along with Luck and Mccoy is plenty to get them into the playoffs. But again this is another team that is going to have to have someone step up at RB in order to have a chance at winning the division.

Fields Fanatix are also 3-3 and are even better at QB with Romo even though he throws picks at the end of games. He has a couple of decent RBs in Charles and Bell but Bell has to split time with Bush which hurts him. Besides Thomas he has no WRs and that is a problem. His is hoping for Harvin to come back and Jordan to continue to put up big numbers. But with all that hoping I don’t know if it will be enough to get them into the playoffs.

Next we have Viall Vigilante who over the years has been the laughing stock of the league but sit at 3-3 so far this year. They are set at QB with Brees leading the way. Their problem is RB and McFadden getting hurt, because without him they will be lucky to get 10 points from the 2nd RB position. They only have 1 good WR and the rest are no good except Austin who they seem to be saving for next season. This team just isn't good enough to make the playoffs plain and simple.

Next we come to the Texans Bruisers at 2-4 but coming of 2 straight wins. Two weeks ago this was called the worst team in league history by Kav, but now in consecutive weeks they have beaten the 2 top teams in the division. This team is strong at QB with Rivers and Brady and have a workhorse in AP. The big question is the 2nd RB position and the disappointment of Matthews. His WR core looked good before the season but they have all underachieved so far. But with Jeffery leading the way they are hoping for some production from newly acquired Allen and Jones coming back from injury could really boost this team. They also are getting Gronk back this week and if he puts up numbers this team could make a run. The last 2 weeks this team has put up the most points in the league, so let's see what they can do here on out.

Now to the worst team in the conference Whitmore Workhorse, who is yet to win a game. They are good at QB but only have 1 back like most teams in the league but don’t have anything to make up for that shortcoming. Their WRs are decent but not great, but their defense is what is killing them. Not going to waste my time on this team because they have no shot at making the playoffs.

So to recap the Vintage conference your division winners will be Pardue and Perdew. The other teams making the playoffs will be Runners, Ruskies, Kavanators, Palms, Fanatix, and I think the Bruisers will make a run and keep the streak alive and make the playoffs.
Good luck this weekend everyone, I will be busy getting married Saturday but hope everyone has a great weekend and enjoy football on Sunday.
