The Boot Hill Balut have been less than explosive so far this season, ranking only 10th in the league in scoring. Last week they were able to pull off a surprising victory over the Frost team, but lost their starting running back for up to six weeks with a broken leg, Reggie Bush. Bush was quickly released from the team as general manager T. Rhodes stated the team could not afford to keep a guy that averages 12 points a game on his roster for six weeks if he cannot play. Clinton Portis moves into the starting role, and the team will certainly need their star wideouts to step up if they have any hope of beating the Temp team in week 3. Those star wideouts are Reggie Wayne and Calvin Johnson, both top draft picks in 2010. Wayne was acquired via trade from the Viall team and has lived up to all expectations placed upon him by the organization. He has averaged over 22 points per game after two weeks, scoring a 22.9 and 22.6. On the other hand, Johnson seems to have picked up where he left off last season, in the dumps. He has only 8 catches on the season, four each week for 8.5 and decent 17 point weeks. The team hopes his struggles are simply a result of the team going away from double coverage and not his inability to get seperation. To get a victory in week three, Calvin needs a huge game against the Vikings from Minnesota. It seems like a real challenge, as the Vikings are ranked 8th against the pass and have only allowed 21 points scored against their defense this season. Upcoming games, GB, St. Louis, and NY Giants offer what seem to be a better opportunity for production from Johnson.
It has been rumored that the Balut offered Calvin Johnson to the Zima team in exchange for tight end Dallas Clark or A. Gates. Zima has openly stated one of his tight ends are on the market for a top wideout, evidently he doesn't view Johnson as a top wideout. General manager T. Rhodes would not deny or confirm the rumor.
Wideout Devin Thomas was signed this week and the team expects him to start putting up some decent numbers. With the release of Redskins running back Larry Johnson and the signing of special teams performer Chad Simpson, Thomas is expected to get a lot more opportunities at wideout. He has been playing special teams for the majority of his action.
Craig Davis joined the team this week and it looks like he will be thrust into the starting lineup. The team believes Nenee is a deep threat and Davis is a solid 6 catch for 80 yard guy. Davis did not play in week one but his week two performance intrigued the front office into offering him a two week contract.
Running Back Keiland Williams has been signed to a season long contract. With the Redskins release of Larry Johnson, Williams moves into the third string spot. Balut general manager said Williams has been signed for potential rather than expectations, whatever that means.
