The eSFL is busy working to ensure that owners experiences are better than ever before. Some of the many enhancements that we’ve already completed for 2011 include:
With the popularity of Facebook the league has made an effort to utilize it as much as possible. This season we mirrored the commissioners site on Facebook to allow owners access to it without leaving Facebook. Results were not perfect and owners reported it did not solve their issues of firewalls, but overall we believe the mirror is a good thing. To use this simply go to Facebook, go to or search for eStandout in the search bar, once at the eStandout site you will see a link to the commissioners mirror site.
We also decided access to the eSFL Radio programming needed to be available in more places so owners could easily access and listen. A link to the most recent eSFL radio program will be placed on eStandout Facebook wall for easy listening. Additionally, a player has been embedded on the commissioners site and this site (eSFFL Insider) to allow listening to live or past shows from them. For owners the simplest way to hear live or past programs is to simply click on any headline in the CUSTOM NEWS FEED area on the official site. This will take you to the eSFL Insider page where the embedded player is seen on the RH side. I would like to point out that you can access the eSFL Radio showpage by following the link on the official site "eSFL Radio Showpage". There you can find info on calling in and programming schedules.
Again, Facebook......we created a group on Facebook named "eSFL Alumni". This group is for all Facebookers who were once or still are in the eSFL. This group page will have different things posted randomly that will include things susch as past eSFL Insider articles, pics, league history, and more.
The eSFL Insider is a great place for owners to write their opinions and have a little fun. All owners are encouraged to post on the Insider and write comments. This season we made a RSS feed so anything posted on the eSFL Insider will show up in the custom news feed area on the official site and also on the commissioners site. The addition to the feed on the commissioners site makes it easier for the commissioner because now he doesn't need to place the article in 3 or 4 different places, write it once and all sites are updated.
The eSFL Shop was created a couple of years ago and to be honest, business has been slow. You can buy team hats, mugs, posters and much more at the eSFL Shop. If you wish you can create your own stuff or request special items to be created by sending me an email. Ten percent of all proceeds go back to the eSFL for future awards and prizes to events such as weekly pick'em and others.
The commissioners site at www.estandoutleague.com has been revamped for easier navigation. On the site you can find team pages, league past results by season, history, view team helmets, and much more.
As far as actual league play, we have made few changes. The league bylaws and guidelines have had a few minor changes, scoring remains unchanged from last season. This season we incorporated the two-a-day start time drawing to ensure the fairest possible way of starting them. Numbers 1 through 24 are placed in a random order generator and randomize a set amount of times. The final randomize time was the time we opened training camps. This procedure will be used for future seasons until further notice.
Open team spots were also selected by lottery type drawing. Next season this event will be performed using the online random order generator instead of name drawing from a hat. This will allow the process to be recorded and viewed.
Finaly, the Blackjack rule has been incorporated. Basically the fourth and final playoff spot in each division will be based on points fielded if teams 4-7 have losing records.
Every year we learn something new to improve the league. This season the draft was a lesson that taught the commissioner a valid lesson. The restricted free agent keeper rule wrecked havoc on the league for the second straight season and changes must be made. Those changes will not eliminate the RFA, but the draft will be corrected to better incorporate it. More to come on this issue.
On a recent eSFL Radio show the topic came up for a unrestricted free agent rule. This would involve two-a-days players picked up that in some shape or form would fall into a category as the current restricted free agents. What this would be is some form of picking up an NFL rookie in two-a-day training camp and not using the player in the season. He would then become an unrestricted free agent and that team would have rights to the player for next season. This is not a current rule but is a topic of discussion. Let your opinion and ideas be heard on this and all subjects.
Well, the season is about a week away and it looks to be a very interesting one for the eSFL's 12th season!
