Ballistic Bowl X Recap

In week 16 the eSFL ended it's 10th season with the most exciting championship game in it's history as the D Crownholders squeaked by a tough Texan Bruisers team by a score of 166.88 to 164.24, extending the losing streak for the Appalachian Division/conference in the big game to four games.

At 2300 hours Est on December 28th, 2009, with 13:20 left in the Monday Night Football game, the Crownholders' Visanthe Shiancoe caught the game winning pass to lead the team to their first ever eSFL championship. What appeared to be just another catch turned out to be so huge not even the head coach could hold back his excitement after the game. "Visanthe made a great catch for us, at the time we was looking to get him more balls to secure the victory without any doubts, but it turned out to be his last catch, wow", he stated during the post game celebration. He was referring to the fact Visanthe soon left the game with injury and never returned to action, just enough to lead the team to the title. Somewhere in fantasy football land his performance was not enough and his team came up short, but in the eSFL title game it was just what the Crownholders needed for victory. Quarterback and game MVP Tom Brady watched with excitement as Visanthe fell to the ground with the game winning catch, and afterwards pronounced himself the games second best player. Fans and league officials didn't agree and voted him Ballistic Bowl X game MVP with his four passing touchdowns for 43.98 points. On the other side, the Bruisers gave it everything they had all the way up to the final catch. They was able to hold off two good players on Sunday and Monday nights and were just seconds from victory. They were led by linebacker Brian Cushing who had a monster game with 25 points, but their running game play ended up being the difference. The team only had 23 points from their starters, while on the bench Darren Sproles sat with almost 29, ultimely that decision cost the team their first championship. "I don't know, coach felt like I wasn't the guy this week, go ask him", Sproles stated when asked about his benching for the title game.

.

The Crownholders were led to victory by a 43.88 point effort from Tom Brady, who was named the games most valuable player. He had 267 passing yards and 4 passing TDs, making him the number 1 ranked overall fantasy scorer for week 16. They also got help from a 30.00 point effort from Chris Johnson, who beat up the Bruisers defense for 142 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD in addition to 37 receiving yards.

"This team shows a lot of poise, we didn't let the highs and lows effect us, not today, not all season" D Crownholders coach Jordan Kizima said.

Texan Bruisers were helped out in a losing cause by a 26.24 point effort from Matt Schaub with 286 passing yards and 2 passing TDs. They also got help from a 25.00 point effort from Brian Cushing, 9 tackles and 1 interception.

"We only have to look in the mirror, we congratulate the opponent, but I take total responsibility for the loss with my decision to sit our sparkplug running back this week" Texan Bruisers coach Chaz Templin said.

Coach Templin was referring to Darren Sproles and his 28.60 points on the bench that would have led the Bruisers to a win.

The full box score and info can be found on the commissioner site, to be posted soon.

Ballistic Bowl X Preview

Starting this Friday night in the eSFL, the D Crownholders will attempt to proclaim for the Global division total dominance over the Appalachian. If the Crownholders win Ballistic Bowl X, they will have won their first ever, and extend the unbeaten streak for the Global 4-0: the 2006 Temp's Texas Boy's, 2007 Frost Furrious Flurries, and the 2008 Boot Hill Balut have beaten the Appalachian opponent in the title game. By doing so, they will take the all-time Division/conference lead with four Ballistic Bowl titles to zero. And, if the Crownholders can pull off the feat, the current Global division will have six Ballistic Bowl champions in the division, compared to zero in the Appalachian.

The Appalachian representive, the Texan Bruisers, have been one of the favorites for Ballistic Bowl X most all season, but a month ago the idea that the team would face the D Crownholders seemed completely ridiculous. As we all know, that's no longer the case. Over the past three games, the Crownholders have seemed like a completely different team compared to the one that struggled through the last half the season and didn't clinch the GFD final playoff spot until the final week, backing in with a Zima loss. Are they really a different team? Let's accept the premise that trends and splits from the entire regular season won't show us how the "real Crownholders" might do against Texan this week. In that case, we need to answer two questions:

1) Which aspects of the Crownholders postseason performance represent significant improvement, and which aspects just show the team going back to their performance level at the end of the regular season?

2) What are D's current strengths and weaknesses, if we expect their improved postseason play to continue into the Ballistic Bowl, and how do these match up against the strengths and weaknesses of the Texan Bruisers?

Those are the two questions we're going to try to answer in the rest of this Ballistic Bowl preview.

In an attempt to answer our questions about the Crownholders, we will split the season into four parts:

•Weeks 1-6: This is when D was playing very well. The Crownholders went into week seven at 4-2.
•Weeks 7-9: Crownholders cooled down a bit, getting handled by Appalachian opponents, going 1-2

•Weeks 10-13: The Crownholders collapse, getting stomped on by Zima, Frost, and Pardue while beating the hapless Boot Hill Balut.

•Weeks 14-15: Crownholders get their act together in run through the GFD playoffs, beating Temp and frost to advance to the Ballistic Bowl.

The chart below show the teams performance broken into four seperate parts of the season. We've also taken those week-to-week ratings for Bruisers and separated offense and defense points as well, so you can get a better idea of how the teams played in each facet of the game during different parts of the season. We are not running the basic stats for the teams, because that will can easily be found in the official stat section. Unlike D, Texan has been basically the same team for the entire season. (The Bruisers graphs also represent total offense and defense)

The Crownholders have won two postseason games in two different ways. They beat Temp by playing a strong defensive game (67). The Frost game was all about decent defense (37.5) and decent offense (103.5), especially considering the poor play from Frost. When we look at the Crownholders offense over the course the season, it seems pretty clear that the offensive game has never really suffered an extended slump. What is interesting is weeks 7-9, the teams non division part of their schedule. In those weeks their offensive production was the best and their defensive output was their second best. They went 1-2 in those games.

The Texan Bruisers won this year with defense, although only ranked in the middle of the pack with 484 points, as you can see by the chart, they needed it to win. On weeks where the defense didn't perform well the team usually loss, a sharp contrast to the Crownholders. Weeks 7-9 they were 3-0, and the playoffs 2-0, all their best defensive performances fell into those games.

Let's look at each teams Value Rank based on each offensive and defensive position:

Texan's offensive value rank of 10.575 was evident in weeks 7-9 and the playoffs, resulting in all five games as a win. Even with a defensive value rank this season of 4.9, the teams offensive play was able to overcome those numbers and get wins, only with in depth analysis can one see the defense stepped up on those weeks. Compare those value ranks with this weeks opponent, the Crownholders was a 10.92 and 4.25 respectively. However, the teams defensive output varied little, but was at its best in weeks 1-6 in which the team was its best 4-2. It's pretty safe to say that the team that will win will have it's defense outplay the other by a significant margin.

Each team finished the season in overall Value rank, Texan at four (58.1) and D at five (54.2). The greatest margin of position for Value rank belongs to the Crownholders at the running back, leading all eSFL teams in that area with a 21.2 rating. The Texan team was also led by the running back position, however, their ranking was a mere 10.2, pretty weak compared to that of the Crownholders.

So, you ask how can the Crownholders have finished with a poor 6-7 regular season record with all these great numbers and seemingly a huge advantage in this game? They did and the don't. They finished 6-7 simply because their team performance relies on the 5th best ranked quarterback and the number 1 ranked running back, and the 9th rated tight end, period. Brady and Johnson are the only threats on the team, and a huge game is needed from the defense and tight end position for the upset win in Ballistic Bowl X.

The Texan Bruisers will feature the 4th ranked quarterback, the 2nd ranked tight end, 2nd ranked linebacker, 5th ranked defensive back. A solid core of mid ranking teammates round out a strong team that should easily handle the Crownholders, unless they get 50 from each from Johnson and Brady.

Enjoy this weeks games, I believe the Appalachian division will win their first Ballistic Bowl, 163 to 148.

Merry Christmas.

"Running back play, injuries to be specific, killed us," Frost Furrious Flurries coach Jeff Frost said.

Adding salt to the wound, the Flurries could have scored 172.77 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Jeff Frost left key players like Chris Wells and his corresponding 22.00 points on the bench.

The Crownholders will make their first ever Ballistic Bowl appearence in week 16 against the Texan Bruisers.

Appalachian Divisional Championship Recap-2009

The Texan Bruisers squeaked by Big D team by a score of 173.38 to 166.62, silencing a partisan crowd of 71,829.

The Bruisers were led to their 6 point victory with a 28.50 point effort from Jamaal Charles, who posted 154 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD in addition to 16 receiving yards. With this performance, Charles was the number 5 ranked running back for week 15. They also got help from a 26.48 point effort from Matt Schaub, who tore apart the St. Louis Rams defense for 367 passing yards and 1 passing TD.
"We made a statement here today, we look forward to continuing the eSFL tradition of expansion teams winning the Ballistic Bowl" Texan Bruisers coach Chaz Templin said.

Big D was led in a losing cause by a 54.92 point effort from Aaron Rodgers, who tore had 383 passing yards and 3 passing TDs in addition to 22 rushing yards. "We shot ourselves in the foot on Monday night," Big D coach Joel Viall said.

Compounding the issue, Big D could have scored 186.22 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Viall left key players like Lee Evans and his corresponding 12.50 points on the bench.

Coming up in week 16, Texan Bruisers will play in Ballistic bowl X, trying to become the first Appalachian team ever to win it. They also will try and become the fifth team in ten years to win the title in their first year of play.

Divisional Championships, 2009

The eSFL divisional championships are upon us and all four teams remaining were 3 and 4 seeds.
The Frost Furrious Flurries host the D Crownholders in the Global Division while the Texan Bruisers do the same for the Big D team in the Appalachian.

The Global Division has dominated the eSFL since division/conference play began in 2004, leading the Ballistic Bowl tally at 6-0 in title games. Yeah, that means no Appalachian team has ever won a Ballistic Bowl, and this year they hope to change that. If they are going to do so, the Texan Bruisers or Big D teams must find a way to put up 170 plus. This week, the Bruisers should roll past the Big D team by 40 points or more. Hey, they call me the human ouija (weegie) because of my game forecast skills, and this one is easy pickings. Aaron Rodgers and Ray Rice have been wonderfull performers for Big D all season, but with no wide reciever or tight end that can score more than 10 a week, they can forget it. The Bruisers will come at the Big D team with Pierre Thomas, Anquan Boldin, Vernon Davis, and more, With a superior lineup only bad luck can send the Bruisers home in defeat. Final score, Bruisers 164  Big D 127
In the Global Division championship, the D Crownholders get the opportunity to prove  that two regular season losses to the Frost club cannot be used as a guage of current team play. The Crownholders entered the playoffs on a three game losing streak, and four of their past five. With a round one win over the favored Temp team quieted most all critics and appear primed for their first ever Ballistic Bowl appearence. The Frost team enetered the post season in a funk as well, going 2-4 down the stretch. Last weeks upset win over the highly favored Bruisermakers surprised the world, but don't be surprised to see them in Ballistic Bowl X fighting for the second championship in team history.
The human ouija (me), sees this as a serious battle that will end with the score seperated by less than three points. the winning team will be the one with Drew Brees at quarterback. The Flurries also have Colston, Williams, and Williams who will play very well. The Crownholders counter with the best running back in the eSFL since Marshall Faulk, but does not have enough assistance from the rest of his team to help pull this one out. Just imagine what the Crownholders could have had they not drafted Clinton Portis in the first round of the draft. My goodnes, had ownership made a decent pick this team could have gone undefeated. Like I said though, this team simply doesn't have enough players to add to Chris Jonson heroics. Final score, Frost 154  Crownholders 151

In the Gunner Bowl, Perdew pounds Boot Hill, final score 197 to 127. Perdew is the best team in the league, just had tough luck early in the season and couldn't recover. Well he recover this week, 110 dollars worth of recovery.

Good luck to all

They also got help from a 28.76 point effort from Tony Romo, who got by the San Diego Chargers defense for 249 passing yards and 2 passing TDs. "We brought our A-game, played like champs, and proved we are probably the best team ever that was not invited to the Ballistic bowl bracket" Perdew Pulverizers coach Josh Perdew said.
Zima Ruskies were led by a 38.44 point effort from Eli Manning, who tore apart the Philadelphia Eagles defense for 391 passing yards and 3 passing TDs in addition to 18 rushing yards. With this performance, Manning was the number 2 ranked quarterback for week 14. They also got help from a 26.50 point effort from Reggie Bush, who snuck past the Atlanta Falcons defense for 33 rushing yards in addition to 46 receiving yards. "They out-muscled us, got to many weapons. You can't expect a win if they have a player with 53 points, won't happen", Zima Ruskies coach Jesse Kizima said.
The Perdew Pulverizers play the defending Ballistic Bowl champion Boot Hill Balut for the Gunner Bowl title, where Boot Hill Balut are an early 10.4-point underdog.

Playoffs, Rd 1, Recap-2009

The 2009 eSFL playoffs ended last night and with it so did four teams' seasons.
All four Ballistic Bowl bracket games ended with the lower seeded team winning, sending the league into divisional championship week with none of the "big boy's" competing for a title.
In a week 14 estandout intra-divisional classic, Big D squeaked by a tough Fields Fanatix team by a score of 128.70 to 126.58, silencing a partisan crowd of 74,088.

The Big D vs Fanatix game was a nail biting down to the wire squeeker that resulted in a 3 point victory by the D team. They were led with a 31.20 point effort from Ray Rice, who rushed for 166 rushing yards and 1 touchdown, in addition to 53 receiving yards. With his performance, Rice was the number 5 ranked running back for the week. They also got defensive help from Darrelle Revis with an 18.00 point effort.
"We made a statement here today, one that says we are primed for a title, can beat anyone" Big D coach Joel Viall said.
The Fields Fanatix were led by Adrian Wilson with a 25.00 point effort ,8 tackles and 1 interception. Wilson was the number 2 ranked defensive safety for week 14. They also got help from a 17.00 point effort from Bryan Scott for 10 tackles. "Our defense played well enough to win today, offensively it was a real dissapointment. We tip our hats to the Big D team for a great performance" Fields Fanatix coach Bruce Fields said.
Causing further embarrassment, the Fanatix could have scored 152.00 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Bruce Fields left key players like Joe Flacco and his corresponding 20.10 points on the bench. "I struggled with who to start at qb all the way up to gametime, the decision I made was the difference", coach Fields said afterwards.
Big D took advantage of their schedule this week, as their point total would have gone for a loss against 10 out of 10 other potential opponents in week 14. "Sometimes in this league, luck is the mother of all good fortune", coach Viall stated.
This win sends the Big D to the Appalachian Divisional championship versus the expansion Texan Bruisers.
The Texan Bruisers are an early 14.3-point favorite

In the other Appalachian Division Wild Card game, the Texan Bruisers continued their strong late season play with an upset over the top seeded Whitmore Workhorse team by a score of 163.75 to 137.50, silencing a partisan crowd of 71,896.

The Bruisers were led to a 26.25 point victory by a 34.10 point effort from Jamaal Charles, who had 143 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD in addition to 38 receiving yards. With this performance, Charles was the number 2 ranked running back for week 14. They also got help from a 33.25 point effort from Matt Schaub, who tore apart the Workhorse team defense for 365 passing yards and 2 passing TDs.
"We've got the greatest fans in the world, they stuck with us all year and expect to see a huge turnout next week as well", Texan Bruisers coach Chaz Templin said.
Whitmore Workhorse was led by a 33.90 point effort from Peyton Manning, who got 220 passing yards and 4 passing TDs. With this performance, Manning was the number 3 ranked quarterback for week 14. They also got help from a 27.10 point effort from Thomas Jones with 99 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs.
"We didn't match their intensity, couldn't get any running back or wideout points" Whitmore Workhorse coach Whitmore said.
Causing further embarrassment, Whitmore could have scored 171.50 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Whitmore left key players like Keith Bulluck and his corresponding 28.50 points on the bench.
Coming up in week 15, Big D will meet the Texan Bruisers for the Appalachian Division championship, where the Texan Bruisers are an early 14.3-point favorite.

In the Global Division, the D Crownholders upset top seeded Temp's Texas Boy's team by a score of 185.18 to 165.31, extending the winning streak for D Crownholders to 3 games and giving Temp head coach Mathew Templin only his second ever playoff loss in eight games.
The Crownholders were led to their 19.87 point victory by a 44.40 point effort from the beast, Chris Johnson, who had 117 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs in addition to 69 receiving yards. With this performance, Johnson was the number 2 ranked overall fantasy scorer for week 14. They also got help from a 26.50 point effort from Brian Dawkins, added 7 tackles and 2 interceptions.
"It was a workman-like effort, our main guy once again proved the value of restricted free agency in this league", D Crownholders coach Jordan Kizima said.
The Temp's Texas Boy's were led by Ryan Grant with a 32.40 point effort and a 20.30 point game from Ricky Williams.  "They wanted it more than we did, or the lord of luck wanted them to have it more than us, either way our season is over", Temp's Texas Boy's coach Mathew Templin said.
Temp's Texas Boy's could have scored 217.41 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Mathew Templin left key players like Brian Orakpo and his corresponding 35.50 points on the bench. The biggest coaching error in Templin's history may have cost him this game, as he started the inactive Percy Harvin at wide receiver. Had he used the health Derrick Mason he would have advanced.
The Crownholders move on to the Global Division Championship where they will meet the Frost Furrious Flurries, the Crownholdersare an early 0.1-point underdog.

Frost Furrious Flurries squeaked by a injury riddled Pardue Bruisermakers team by a score of 171.84 to 162.02, silencing a partisan crowd of 74,451.

Frost was led to their 9.82 point victory by a 41.04 point effort from Drew Brees, who got 296 passing yards and 3 passing TDs. With this performance, Brees was the number 4 ranked overall fantasy scorer for week 14. They also got help from a 20.00 point effort from Jay Feely, who snuck past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense for 4 field goals made and 2 extra points. "We snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat," Frost Furrious Flurries coach Jeff Frost said.
Pardue Bruisermakers were helped out in a losing cause by a 33.30 point effort from Adrian Peterson, who had 97 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs in addition to 40 receiving yards. With this performance, Peterson was the number 3 ranked running back for week 14. They also got help from a 27.30 point effort from Dallas Clarkwith 43 receiving yards and 3 receiving TDs. "I tip my hat to them, once again we go home from the playoffs dissapointed" Pardue Bruisermakers coach Ron Pardue said.
Compounding the issue, Pardue Bruisermakers could have scored 180.42 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Ron Pardue left key players like Chris Jennings and his corresponding 16.30 points on the bench.
Frost Furrious Flurries are at the D Crownholders to decide the Global Division championship in week 15. The D Crownholders are an early 0.1-point underdog.

Playoffs Start With Surprises, 2009

Playoffs Start With Surprises

The start of the 2009 eSFL playoffs provided lot's of excitement and surprises, with more yet to come. The leagues best regular season team has seemingly fallen in the first round to the expansion Texan Bruisers while one of the leagues top coaches has an uphill battle to stay alive. The Temp Texas Boy's will need 60 points from three players if they wish to advance to the next round.

Meanwhile, The Frost Furrious Flurries have all but advanced with a surprising victory over the Pardue Bruisermakers, who continue to struggle in post season play.

Bruce Fields will be rooting for the Cardinals tonight, as he need 30 points from two players if he is to advance and have a chance to redeem himself for last seasons Ballistic bowl loss.

The Gunner Bowl series has the Perdew team smacking the Zima club and sending them to next weeks toilet Bowl game.
The Kav and Boot Hill matchup looks as though it could go either way, currently .10 points seperate the teams. Kav has the advantage with top tier players left and likely will face off against the Pulverizers for a money back shot.

Ballistic Bowl Bracket Busters

Ballistic Bowl Bracket Busters
By Josh Perdew

Welcome to the Ballistic Bowl Playoffs
We have some interesting matchups that include some league veterans, young teams, and a rookie. This has been another great season with some great upsets, a defending champion nearly going winless, and more smack talk than you can imagine. I, for one, am thankful for being in this league and look forward to competing with each of you for many years.

The Bracket is set and here are the matchups:

Big D vs. Fields Fanatix -Appalachian Division
Seven years in the league, six playoff appearances, three division titles, and three trips to the big one. Is it right by saying the best guy never to win the title? Not so fast! In a few weeks, we might be looking into changing the Hall of Fame entry requirements. Fields Fanatix are the most experienced team in the playoffs this year and are lead by Steven Jackson, Brett Favre, and Randy Moss. If these guys play to potential, he will be right back in the Ballistic Bowl finals for a record 4th time. Some folks seem to think Fields is a scrub, a guy who can't win the big game. I think this guy knows what he is doing. He drafts a solid core, picks great waivers and competes every year. This guy will be in the Hall of Fame one day, no doubt about it. Big "D" is a young team with 2 years in the league and 2 straight playoff appearances. He is lead by QB Aaron Rodgers and young RB Ray Rice. He will need outstanding games from both to hold Fields "three headed monster" in check. Rodgers throws for 34 and Rice runs for 29, but its not enough as Favre gets 28, Jackson with 26 and Moss with 22. Fields-167 Big "D"-148

Texan Bruisers vs Whitmore Workhorses-Appalachian Division
A quick congrats to the Texan Bruisers for making the playoffs in their first season. They are lead by studs Matt Schaub and Anquan Boldin. They are facing a Whitmore team that caught fire and has been atop the division all season long. Whitmore has an experienced bunch and one of the best QB's in the league in Peyton Manning. WR's Donald Driver, Chad Ocho, and TJ Housh have contributed to the success all season and I think they will continue and lay a beat down. Manning throws for 43, Ocho with a solid 19, and Housh will be the nail in the Bruisers with his third 100 yard game this season and post a nice 29 point game. In the losing effort, Schaub hits for 38 and Jennings gets 27 but its not enough. Whitmore-197 Texans-184

Frost Furrious Flurries vs Pardue Bruisermakers-Global Division
Frost is trying to prove that his 2007 Ballistic Bowl title was not a fluke. He has struggled against Pardue since joining the league in 2005 with a less than stellar 2-6 record in the regular season and 0-1 post season in the 2008 Gunner Bowl. Pardue is looking to make elite status and win his first Championship after a missed opportunity last season at the Ballistic Bowl playoffs. He did however take the Gunner Bowl. These two teams have never seen each other at this stage and things could get interesting. Frost has rode Brees and Colston the whole year and no surprise this week when they light up the Falcons on the scoreboard. Pardue needs AP to step up big time after a tough loss to the Cardinals. I believe this game will be tight and Frost pulls the upset due to Pardue's QB in backup Chris Redman. Matt Ryan has a foot injury and Pardue looks to be starting Redman, but he has the option to change his lineup and play Chad Henne or David Garrard, but this position will end up costing Pardue the game. Frost's Drew Brees lights it up for 45 points and he advances to the next round. Frost 174-Pardue-163

D Crownholder vs Temp's Texas Boys-Global Division
Congrats to D Crown for his 3rd straight playoff appearances since joining the league. If he wants to advance, he has some serious work ahead of him. He gets a shot to take on Temp's Boys and they have something to prove. As we all know, Temp is an elite in this league with a laundry list of accomplishments that include back to back championships and tons of playoff experience. He has a solid 3-1 record against D Crown, but this is the first meeting in the post season for these guys. This Temp team looks as dominate as ever with great players like Fitzgerald and recent standout Ricky Williams and great defenders as well with MLB Patrick Willis. These boys put up some serious points each week. D Crown will need an outstanding performance from Tom Brady and Chris Johnson to remain in this game. I see Brady dropping a 40 point bomb and Johnson getting 32 and it should be enough to hold off Temp. DCrown pulls the upset of the week and wins. DCrown-179 Temp-174

Gunner Bowl Preview, 2009 round 1

The Gunner Bowl and Ballistic Bowl tourney games have begun with last nights Thursday Night Football on NFL Network. The season has passed quickly once again and the league office has been very busy preparing for next season. But the 2009 season is not complete until a champion has been crowned and there are some very nice matchups around the league to look at.

The 6-7 Perdew Pulverizers, who hope to extend their 3 game winning streak, face off against the 5-8 Zima Ruskies for an opportunity to play in the Gunner Bowl Title Game.

Last week Perdew Pulverizers were led to a victory over the Texan Bruisers by wideout Wes Welker with 26.7 points. The Pulverizers have seemingly corrected their early season woes, albeit they were of the tough luck kind rather than self inflicted ones, to finish with a respectful 6-7 record. Based on projections from FantasySharks.com, the Perdew Pulverizers can expect a 22 point effort from Wes Welker in week 14, who is projected to get 80 receiving yards and 1 receiving TDs. "We have been playing good team football all season, played at a high level all season, but as they say, you are what your record is", Perdew Pulverizers coach Josh Perdew said.
The Zima Ruskies on the other hand, are one of the leagues weakest teams based on stats, but could have made the playoffs with one win in either of their last two games. Unable to get into the Ballistic Bowl playoffs was a devastating blow to ownership and the Gunner Bowl is not where they thought they would be a month ago. Last week in a loss to the Temp Texas Boy's tight end Jason Whitten had one of his best games of the season, a 29.60 point effort. Expect him to only post half that amount this week and the team needed a big performance from wide receiver Santonio Holmes. That didn't happen last night, but he did post a respectful 15.9 points with six catches and 93 yards. "This game is not only for bragging rights, but it's an opportunity to retrieve my league entry fee, and we are fired up about it" Zima Ruskies coach Jesse Kizima said.
This is the first game between these two franchises in their history, and is sure to be a good one.

In the other Gunner Bowl game, the defending Ballistic Bowl champ Boot Hill Balut take on the Kavanators from Kav in a matchup between two last place teams.
Coming up in a week 14 estandout battle, the 3-10 Kav's Kavanators, who hope to end their 3 game losing streak, face off against the 3-10 Boot Hill Balut.

The Kav's Kavanators got a 33.67 point effort from Philip Rivers in a week 13 loss, their eighth of the last nine games played. The team started the season as though they would be a sure contender for a playoff spot, but things began to go downhill in a week five loss to the Whitmore team. Last night tight end Heath Miller posted a very nice 18.5 point score, getting a good start to this weeks games. "We have to crank it up, want our entry fee back" Kav's Kavanators coach Ron Kavanaugh said.
The Boot Hill Balut team has ended the season as one of the hottest teams in the league, averaging 156 points per game over their last five and winning their final two. Injuries and tough luck were a factor in the season never getting started for them until around week 10, but poor manegement certainly played it's part as well. Last week Antonio Gates stepped up with a 24.70 effort, and surprise free agent starter Shaun Ellis posted 17.50 points in their win over the Flurries. We project Boot Hill Balut to geta  23 point effort from him in week 14, and Running back Moreno to get around 80, yes, 80. "We're playing not only for pride, but would be proud to bring a Gunner Bowl trophy into our possession",  Boot Hill Balut coach T. Rhodes said.
This is the first game between these two franchises in 2009.

I project Boot Hill and Perdew to play next week in the Gunner Bowl championship game.
The losers of this weeks Gunner Bowl tourney games will play next week in the Toilet Bowl game, a game of Pride. I expect that to be the Zima Ruskies vs the Kavanators.

Playoffs, Gunner Bowl, and changes next year

The eSFL playoffs start tomorrow with four very nice looking matchups, and the Gunner Bowl tourney seed draw will take place today in about 25 minutes.

Next year the league is considering changing the playoff layout from it's current one division winner / three wild card, to a one division winner / two wild card / one blackjack.
Currently, each division winner and the second, third, and fourth place teams qualify for the playoffs. The change being considered would have each division winner but only the second and third place teams. The fourth team to make the playoffs from each division would not be based on record, but points fielded for the season. So, this years playoff layout compared to next seasons is defined below.

In the Global division there would be no changes to the playoff teams as the fourth place team also had the highest points fielded among the fifth and sixth place teams in that division.

In the Appalachian, there would be a change. This years teams are:
Whitmore (1)
Fields (2)
Big D (3)
Texan (4)

With the new format being considered, the playoff teams and seeds would be as follows:
Whitmore (1)

Fields (2)
Big D (3)
Perdew (Blackjack)

Perdew would be the fourth team in the playoffs because each division has one division winner (Whitmore), two wild cards (Fields and Big D), and one Blackjack (Perdew). The Old Maid is the fourth place or worse team in the division standings who had the highest points fielded for the season, regardless of record. So in this years Appalachian division, Perdew would get the Old Maid over Texan based on points, not record.

Also, even when the season is over all owners are encouraged to visit the commissioner and official webite frequently for announcements and dates. The new official site will have a league calander that you can view to identify the important dates such as restricted free agent signing deadlines, draft date, sign up dates, ect. Also, the commissioner site will have occasional stories, team page updates, and other enhancements. Everyone is encouraged to post articles and info on the site via the message board there or the eSFL insider.

With the new official site next year comes other opportunities to enhance the league.
Changes already in consideration are each starting lineup will consist of a punter.
The unique part of this starter will be he CANNOT score points for your team, he only can LOSE points. His scoring will be based so each week a great game for your punter would be zero, and a poor game would be minus seven. No punter will be able to score positive points UNLESS they score or throw for  a touchdown, in which they will receive the same points as a running back for that category. Any ideas on this are appreciated.

Good luck in the upcoming post season games, I gotta go do the Gunner Bowl seed drawing.

Week 13 Recaps-2009

The eSFL regular season has ended and playoff teams are set. The Gunner Bowl seed drawing will be held on 9 December at 1200 UTC time (0600 CST) and a video of the seed drawing will be placed on the commissioner website. Week 13 games went down like this:

"This was a good win for us, and we look forward to the Gunner Bowl" Perdew Pulverizers coach Josh Perdew said.
The losing Texan Bruisers continued their slide and need to up their game in the playoffs. They were helped out in a losing cause by a 28.80 point effort from Anquan Boldin, 98 receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs. With this performance, Boldin was the number 4 ranked wide receiver for week 13. They also got help from a 23.10 point effort from Vernon Davis who had 111 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD.
"We lost our focus but plan on recovering it for the playoffs," Texan Bruisers coach Chaz Templin said.
Compounding the issue, Texan Bruisers could have scored 198.18 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Chaz Templin left key players like Jason Campbell and his corresponding 40.78 points on the bench.
This put the final record for Perdew Pulverizers to 6-7, and dropped the playoff bound Texan Bruisers to a record of 7-6.

Boot Hill Balut beat a strong Frost Furrious Flurries team by a score of 179.17 to 156.21, silencing a partisan crowd of 72,472.

The Boot Hill Balut were led to their second straight victory with a 24.70 point effort from Antonio Gates, with 167 receiving yards. With this performance, Gates was the number 3 ranked tight end for week 13. They also got help from a 24.70 point effort from Knowshon Moreno with 86 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs.  "This team shows a lot of heart, hopefully we got the horses for a Gunner Bowl title" Boot Hill Balut coach T. Boot Hill Balut finishes the season at 3-10 and last place in the Global division while Frost backs into the playoffs at 6-7.

Temp's Texas Boy's ended all playoff hopes of the Zima Ruskies team by a score of 132.65 to 118.89, extending the winning streak for Temp's Texas Boy's to 5 games.

Temp's Texas Boy's were led to their 13.76 point victory by a 28.30 point effort from Larry Fitzgerald, 143 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD. They also got help from a 22.30 point effort from Percy Harvin who had 79 receiving yards and 1 receiving TD in addition to 22 rushing yards.

Zima Ruskies were led in a losing cause by a 29.60 point effort from Jason Witten's 156 receiving yards. With this performance, Witten was the number 1 ranked tight end for week 13. They also got help from a 23.59 point effort from Eli Manning's 241 passing yards and 2 passing TDs.
"The final score is the only statistic that matters, we had our opportunity to make the playoffs and couldn't get it done. We simply are not a playoff caliber team and are headed where we belong, the Gunner Bowl tourney" Zima Ruskies coach Jesse Kizima said.
Compounding the issue, Zima Ruskies could have scored 166.59 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Jesse Kizima left key players like Santonio Holmes and his corresponding 28.90 points on the bench.
Temp's Texas Boy's took advantage of their schedule this week, as their point total would have gone for a loss against 9 out of 10 other potential opponents in week 13.
This brings the record for Temp's Texas Boy's to 10-3, and drops Zima Ruskies to a record of 5-8.

In what turned out to be a meaningless game, the Pardue Bruisermakers squeaked by a determined D Crownholders squad and extended the losing streak for D Crownholders to 3 games.

"Our defense didn't show up today, our team should be embarressed. But we will try and regroup and see what happens in round one of the playoffs", D Crownholders coach Jordan Kizima said.
Causing further embarrassment, D Crownholders could have scored 175.12 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Jordan Kizima left key players like Ben Roethlisberger and his corresponding 27.42 points on the bench.
D Crownholders drew the short straw with their schedule this week, as their point total would have resulted in a win against 8 out of 10 other potential opponents in week 13.
This brings the record for Pardue Bruisermakers to 8-5, and drops D Crownholders to a record of 6-7.

Adding salt to the wound, Big D could have scored 150.12 points and earned the win with their best lineup, but Joel Viall left key players like Aaron Schobel and his corresponding 13.50 points on the bench.
Fields Fanatix took advantage of their schedule this week, as their point total would have gone for a loss against 7 out of 10 other potential opponents in week 13.
This brings the record for Fields Fanatix to 8-5, and drops Big D to a record of 7-6.

Week 13 Preview-2009

There are several games that will decide the playoff teams this week in the eSFL, and the most prominent ones are the Zima vs Temp, and D versus Pardue games.
Last week Zima had a letdown and lost to the lowly Balut team, but even with a win this weeks game would have had the same implications. The Crownholders lost their second straight and three of the last four to fall to 6-6 and allow Zima to get back into the hunt. Zima holds the tiebreaker if both teams finish with the same record, beating D in week three 77.28-115.04 and again in week eleven 123.1-149.08.
Neither team is considered a powerhouse or threat for the league championship, but anything can happen once the playoffs start. Zima is the leagues worst team in the points fielded category behind even the pathetic Boot Hill team. However, the Zima team has the leagues least points against for the season allowing them to be in position for the final Global division playoff spot. The odd combination of the second best scoring defense in the league and lowest scoring offense in the league, the Zima team has had a roller coaster type season. His opponent the Temp Texas Boys are in quest of their fifth straight win as they roll into the playoffs on top of their game. At 9-3 the Temp team will be a tough beat for the Zima club, who they lost to in week five 135.34-127.38.
On the other hand, the D Crownholders are in the middle of the pack in both points against and points fielded, and their offensive and defensive points posted. The Crownholders will be at a huge dis-advantage this week as their opponent, Pardue, expects a big day from running back Peterson. Pardue will be looking to rebound from a dissapointing loss to the Texas Boy's last week and has many favorible matchups in his lineup.
Lets take a look at the playoff scenerios and positions:

In the Appalachian Division:
Whitmore will be the number one seed. (He holds all tiebreakers against the remaining teams)

So,
If Zima loses or D wins, Zima is out

Well, it's complicated so we will wait until the games are final to see who gets seeded where.

Good luck to everyone.

My predictions for week 13 are:
Boot Hill over Frost
Zima over Temp
D over Pardue
Big D over Fields
Kav over whitmore
Perdew over Texan

The remaining positions between Fields, Big D, and Texan are yet to be decided.
Fields:
With a win in week 13 is number two seed
With a loss in week 13 will be number three seed

Big D:
With a win in week 13 and a loss by Texan, Big D will be Number two seed
With a win in week 13 and a win by Texan, seed two will be decided by the "what if" tiebreaker

Texan:
With a win in week 13 and a Big D win, seed two will be decided by the "what if" tiebreaker
With a win in week 13 and a Big D loss texan will be the number three seed
With a loss in week 13 Texan will be the four seed

-If Fields beats Big D then Fields has the number two spot. (tiebreaker over Texan owned)
-Big D tiebreker over Texan wth a win

Week 12 Insider

Week 12 Insider

By Josh Perdew

Welcome sports fans! Let me start off by saying Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and for those of you who are away from your families and friends, thanks for your service. To each of you who might be traveling this week, have a safe trip and a great holiday to all.

Week 12 is here and the playoffs are locked for the Appalachian Division. Congratulations go out to the Workhorses, Fanatix, Bruisers, and Big “D”. Seedings are unknown at the moment due to the remaining games which any of these teams can take the top four spots. The two best names in the game, Kavanators and Pulverizers will be heading to the Gunner Bowl bracket in a couple of weeks joining Boot Hill Balut, but who will join the trio is still a mystery. One team in the Global Division is locked into a playoff spot as Temps Texas Boys are trying to win its 3rd Ballistic Bowl in 5 years. Zima Ruskies, Frost Furries, D Crownholders, and Pardues Brusiermakers are fighting for the remaining 3 playoff spots. One team will be eliminated from the playoffs and join the Gunner Bowl bracket. The fans in Boot Hill are ready to riot if Coach Rhodes can’t make a run at the Gunner Bowl title. It seems as if this team had its eyes on that trophy since Week 6. Boot Hill captured the Ballistic Bowl title last season and the fans are accustomed to winning. Coach Rhodes has experienced some of the worst luck and some devastating injuries this season.

The Global Division games this week are crucial games for a spot in the playoffs.

Zima Ruskies vs. Boot Hill Balut
If Zima wants his shot at the playoffs, they must beat the Boot Hill team that is steadily improving its scoring over the past few weeks. They are currently on a 3 game losing streak but in 2 of 3 lost, the team has scored 150 plus points. Zima is riding a 2 game winning streak in which he won due to his opponents scoring less than 125 in each. He will need big games from his stars like Tomlinson and Witten, as well as great defensive play by Allen and Harrison. The Balut will look to end his streak with Gore on the ground and Johnson through the air. McNabb will be the difference as he battles the Redskins at home and drops a 40 point bomb. With a Balut win, Zima might end up outside the playoff picture and joining the Gunner Bowl. Balut-179 Zima-158

D Crownholders vs. Frost Furries
Frost is currently sliding down the division standings after dropping 4 of its last 5 games. In his defense, he lost 2 of those games after scoring a 150 plus points including a nail biter against Big “D”. He needs a bounce back week to solidify his playoff spot and he might not get it this week. His studs in Brees and Colston are playing a tough game against New England. D Crownholders are coming off a tough lose to Zima and looking to rebound as well. The matchup of the week will be Crownholders leader in Tom Brady vs. one of the games best defenders in Sharper. If Brady can connect with Moss and Welker, and avoid the big mistakes to Sharper, he will lead this team to victory. Neither of these teams is safely locked in the playoffs and could be eliminated next week. This is one of the most important games of the year for both of these teams.
Both of these guys might be focused more on Balut/Zima and forget about their own game. This will be a defensive battle and the Crownholders will come out victorious with D Ware getting 3 sacks, 2 FF, and 5 tackles and leading the team with 30 points. Crownholders-139 Frost-132

Pardue Bruisermakers vs. Temp’s Texas Boys
Temp has a spot locked and Pardue will join him with a win this week. Temp has won 4 of his last 5 and is squad is lead by WR Larry Fitzgerald and some solid defensive players in Ray Lewis and Patrick Willis. He is coming off a big win against defending champion Boot Hill with a 190 point beat down. Pardue has also won 4 of his last 5 games and is putting up solid numbers each week. This team is clearly lead by perhaps the best running back in the game today in Adrian Peterson. AP is in line for another outstanding performance this week against the Bears. He will drop 38 points and lead his team to victory. Pardue-176 Temp-163

This week’s games in the Appalachian Division are merely for seeding purposes.

Texas Bruisers vs. Whitmore Workhorses
This game is a big battle for positioning as these 7-4 teams go at it for the second time this season. Week 4’s showdown saw Whit beat the Brusiers 145-113. I don’t see that happening this week without Ronnie Brown in the lineup. Whit will be lead by Manning’s 32 points and the Bruisers will be lead by Schaub’s 34. Whitmore has been exposed by the Pulverizers and the Brusiers will follow that up with a monster game from his defensive team. Bruisers-184 Whit-136

Fields Fanatix vs. Perdew Pulverizers
The Pulverizers have owned the Fanatix in the regular season. Perdew is 3-0 vs Fields in the regular season since joining the league in 2008. These teams met in Week 4 of this season and Perdew laid 190 points on his ass. A massive 45 point victory will be repeated again this week as Wes Welker leads the team with 33 points and M Jones Drew gets his solid 31. Fields will get an outstanding game from his defense but his “O” will fail to put up the numbers. Steven Jackson is running against a top 12 defense in Seattle and Randy Moss will be held down by the Saints corners. Perdew-175 Fields-130

Big “D” vs Kav’s Kavanators
Kav is looking for a good show before heading to the Gunner Bowl bracket in a few weeks. Big “D” is fighting for a better seed in the Ballistic Bowl bracket. Kav doesn’t have a clue what he is doing and he will show it again this week. Kav puts up his highest score of the season last week and still loses! Earlier in the season, he couldn’t seem to get the best option on the field. He finally did and dropped a heartbreaker to Fields. Maybe he should stop trash talking, shut his mouth, and concentrate on his team! He has clearly lost focus and if he continues down this path, he will have a quick exit from the Gunner Bowl bracket as well. Big “D” on the other hand has locked a spot in the playoffs due to the tie breaker. The Pulverizers could get the tying record but would lose to the head to head tiebreaker. Big “D” will get a great performance from Aaron Rodgers vs. Detroit and a good performance from kicker Robbie Gould since the Chicago offense can’t score touchdowns. This game will be pathetic. Big”D”-159 Kav-93

From the commish....Thanks to All

Thanksgiving is upon us and that means the eSFL playoffs are taking shape. The Perdew Pulverizers, Balut, and Kav's Kavanators are officially eliminated from the playoffs. However, in the eSFL anything is possible, and these teams still could make the playoffs if owners of other teams fail to get their transaction fee money to the commissioner on time. As of yet, the only money received is from the Pulverizers. Even if this miracle doesn't happen, all these teams will battle for a Gunner Bowl title in the 3rd annual Gunner Bowl tournament.

Thus far this season we have had little to no scoring problems and all owners have performed to the highest standards. It's easy being the commissoner when people are'nt complaining that their points are wrong when they lose by 1 point. Everyone must, and evidently has, realized scores are scores, next time it may be them on the other end. The scoring has been spot on as far as the commissioner is concerned. I encourage everyone to frequently visit the commissioner web site and the backup site. The backup site will be our official site in 2010 and the scoring is a little bit different, mainly for quarterbacks. On that sit a qb score is usually higher by around two points or so, but everything else is spot on. Also, we will be using a punter next season, details to come.
Thanks to everyone and good luck the rest of the way.
