As we enter into Ballistic Bowl week I thought it would be a good time to bring up a few issues that the competition committee will be looking at this off season. The newly formed committee members are:
B. Fields
J. Perdew
T. Rhodes
These issues are only up for discussion and none of them are guaranteed to be implemented. However, they could be implemented if the committee comes to that decision.
First of all, the committee will discuss the teams, divisions, conferences and layout of the league.
The Pardue Bruisermakers and Orange Crush will be in the league if they so desire. This means if someone has to be eliminated to get them in, then that will happen. Elimination of teams will be based on years in league, dedication to the league, etc..
This season we had 3 divisions, 2 conferences, with 9 teams each. In the Nebula one of those teams was the league owned Coalition.
Up for discussion is whether each conference should have a league owned team, should we eliminate the league owned team, and everything related to this (these) league owned team(s). One way this could look next year is below (teams are for example and may change of course): NOTE: I have not validated whether this scheduling would work and it would need further investigation.
-NEBULA
--Helix Division (Houston, Psycho, Viall)
--Quasar Division (Nachman, Perdew, Money)
--Orion Division (Igama, Wallies, Orange)
--Guild Division (Standout Coalition)
*As you can see the Nebula Conference would consist of 4 divisions. 3 of these divisions would have 3 teams with the Guild division having 1.
*Teams would play everyone in their division twice and *non division once for a total of 11. The 12th game would be non conference
*each week one team would play the Coalition
-This would give the Coalition 9 games on their schedule needing 3 more. To achieve the 3 they would play each team in one division from the Vintage Conference OR play the other Standout team 3 times.
-VINTAGE
--Global Division (Zima, Temp, Fields)
--Virginia Division (Rhodes, Texan, Pardue)
--Appalachian Division (Frost, Kav, Crownholder)
--Union Division (Standout Alliance)
See the details on the Nebula scheduling as it would play out the same way for the Vintage.
The playoffs would be the same (3 division winners 1 BJ) except the Guild and Union Division can only qualify for the playoffs as blackjack OR we could say they could win any of the three divisions based on record.
What also needs to be discussed is who runs these teams. Should it be a dedicated owner, should it be all owners taking turns, etc..
Also, if it is a dedicated owner should that owner be compensated in any way?
Another issue is what happens to the HI 50 award won by these teams?
SECOND TOPIC
Make the playoffs a 3 or 4 week total points format.
All teams that qualify for the playoffs will be not be eliminated in the playoffs based on head to head. A total of points scored for the playoff weeks would determine the champion. We could have head to head scheduling these weeks and award a set amount of points for a win. These points would be added to the teams total points for the playoff period. We could have every playoff team play each other each playoff week (meaning each playoff team would have 3 games each week).
We would make the Gunner Cup a total points for all non playoff teams the same way as the Ballistic Bowl.
THIRD TOPIC
Keep or eliminate the HI 50 award
FOURTH TOPIC
A comprehensive review of the league rules and rewrite them in an orderly fashion
FIFTH TOPIC
College players being drafted when they are still in college and have not been drafted by an NFL team yet
SIXTH TOPIC
Tiebreaker system for playoff qualifications
SEVENTH TOPIC
Redraw teams in each division every year or not
If anyone has any opinions or other issues they wish to be discussed let us know. The committee will begin this review in July 2015.
