2011 eSFL Global Division Draft Grades

OVERALL (B-)

Defending Global Champion Pardue Bruisermakers will try to defend last year’s season ending finale which ended in a title game loss. The Brusiermakers are always contenders in the Global, and this year should be no different.

Superstars: Jamaal Charles, Tony Romo, Miles Austin

Garbage: Hines Ward, Jay Cutler

Sleepers: Jimmy Graham

In round 1 (A)-Got a steal as Charles could have went anywhere in the top 4 overall picks. He found him in the 5th overall spot, and was probably pretty happy to have him

Round 2 (B+)-Pardue would probably rather seen Vick fall a few more spots and be available to him coming back up the second round, but Romo will be very effective this season and produce quality numbers.

Round 3 (B-)-Austin was a good selection here. Probably the best WR on the board. Standard pick.

Round 4- (C-)-Jahvid Best ----A few more reliable backs were on the list. A slight drop in value here.

Round 5- (C)-Brandon Marshall -----Marshall is the best WR in Miami, but the QB
issues continue. If some chemistry is developed, Marshall could become a steal in the 5th round.

Round 6-12 (C-)-Stole Brandon Jacobs in round 10, Jimmy Graham could be a top sleeper, Cutler is garbage. Looks like he has some work to do in training camp.

OVERALL (C+)

Temps Texas Boys had a good first 5 rounds but seemed to fall off in the later rounds. Julio Jones could be a solid restricted free agent for next season, but only time will tell. Can Coach Templin hang onto him for the entire season?

Superstars: Adrian Peterson, Greg Jennings

Garbage: Michael Bush, Rashard Jennings

Sleepers: Julio Jones, Mathew Stafford

In round 1 (A+)-Adrian Peterson- No Brainer, best player in the draft, taken overall #1.

Round 2 (A+)-Greg Jennings was an absolute steal at 28th overall. He was ranked as a top 5 WR and four other WR’s went ahead of him.

Round 3- (B-)-Mike Wallace -Good choice to help alongside Jennings.

Round 4 (B)-Shonn Green is another solid player to join the backfield with AP. Good pick, lots of upside, and should be a solid back for the two time champs.

Round 5- (C)-If nagging injuries don’t keep Percy Harvin down, this could be a valuable addition to the Texas Boys.

Round 6-12 (D-)- As usual, too many defensive players selected in the late rounds of the draft. Not much value beyond the top 5 rounds except Ben Watson in the 10th.

OVERALL (D+)

McKinney Rednecks had arguably the worst draft in the entire division. Beyond Roddy White, Manning and Gates, he selected too many defensive players.

Superstars: Roddy White, Peyton Manning, Antonio Gates

Garbage: Peyton Manning(Pending further investigation), Ed Reed(WTF)

Sleepers: Jeremy Maclin, Colt McCoy

In round 1 (A)-Roddy White could be the top WR in this year’s draft. He fell down to the second overall WR taken and Coach McKinney was delighted to have him with the last pick in the first round.

Round 2 (B-)-Peyton Manning------We have yet to see Peyton on the field, and the last time he was injured before the season began, he came out looking like garbage. He always seems to get the job done, but he is an aging QB. His ranking could jump up if he plays like the Peyton we all know. The projections on Manning this year is not looking good as of right now.

Round 3 (C+)- Ryan Mathews could be a sleeper this year. He was banged up most of last season and Mike Tolbert was an animal. He will have to compete to get the bulk of carries. Stay classy, San Diego.

Round 4- (A)-Antonio Gates – Best TE in the league, always gets the job done.

Round 5- (F)-Jeremy Maclin. With a recent clearing of some health issues, Maclin looks to rejoin the party in Philly. A nice grab here but I have a hunch that his health may hold him down this year.

Round 6-12 (F)-And then his draft his rock bottom……WTF are you doing drafting a guy that’s available in training camp? Ed Reed would be available on the last day of training camp! Recent years have show that Coach McKinney likes to draft a few defensive players, so I guess he stuck with his normal strategy. I think he is an injury or two away from having a 2-12 season. The only potential that can be found in the late rounds of his draft is Colt McCoy and Braylon Edwards.

OVERALL (C)

D Crownholders, the 2009 eSFL champions, started strong but finished weak. That tends to happen to the guys that draft QB first. He took a few risks with some unproven players. I foresee the blackjack rule may play a part in this division.

Superstars: Aaron Rodgers, Jason Witten

Garbage: James Starks, Robert Meachem, Steve Smith(Carolina)

Sleepers: Marshawn Lynch, Plaxico Burress

In round 1 (A+)- Aaron Rodgers, the top QB selected in this year’s draft, taken #6 overall and should be solid. The Packers are looking to return to the glory days of old. Rodgers will get the job done and be the MVP of this squad….hands down!

Round 2 (C-)-DeSean Jackson is a big play guy. A risk with a few other proven wideouts on the draft board. His numbers may take a hit with the “dream team” loading up with additional talent.

Round 3 (C)-Run DMC, Darren McFadden, is a very talented player on a very horrible team. If the Raiders utilize this guy, he could be a fantasy monster. The problem is…they don’t!

Round 4- (A)-Jason Witten is stud, gets the ball a lot, has great hands, and should be the best player at his position at the end of year.

Round 5- (F)-Plaxico Burress hasn’t see a football field in almost 3 years. He has a major setback that he may not overcome until late in the year. Too risky in my opinion.

Round 6-12 (D)-Marshawn Lynch was a nice addition in round 6 but after that, the talent levels drop off the charts. Backups galore, and not much talent.

OVERALL (B-)

The Zima Ruskies might have fallen into the same category as D Crown, but he recovered late with a few nice additions after drafting a QB in round 1. The Ruskies might have trouble in the running game. I would guess that some lame ass trade will be offered to about every GM in this league by week 3 wanting a stud RB for a LB or DL.

Superstars: Drew Brees, Vincent Jackson

Garbage: Reggie Bush, Eli Manning, Michael Crabtree

Sleepers: Beanie Wells, Bernard Berrian

In round 1 (A)- Drew Brees is a top notch guy and a fantasy dream. He throws the ball more than anyone and completes a truckload of passes. The Saints have more weapons than the U.S Army. He should be enough alone to get Zima to the playoffs.

Round 2 (B+)-“Welcome back Vincent Jackson” said Phillip Rivers. “Now I can throw the ball to someone other than Gates and get some completions” Vincent Jackson looked solid at the end of last season, and if the Chargers had made the playoffs, they may have made some noise. V Jax was a nice choice here as he could be the #1 fantasy wide out at season’s end.

Round 3 (D)-Marques Colston is too risky in a high powered offense like the Saints. The field general spreads the ball around too much. No consistency here.

Round 4- (C)- With a need for a solid RB, Zima might have made a boo boo by taking a solid TE that might have fallen another round. Jermichael Finley is only been a projected stud but injuries have hampered him. Only time will tell, but I would guess that Greg Jennings fans would rather see Finley break another leg, thigh, knee, or whatever to end his season.

Round 5- (D)- Reggie Bush? WTF? Reggie can’t hold up as an every down back and will eventually lose the starting job midseason. Zima will come calling everyone….just wait and see.

Round 6-12 (B)-Zima got a steal on Beanie with the recent news of Ryan Williams going down for the season. If he can remain healthy, he will only need one RB. If not, owners beware! Zima will be offering DL’s for RB’s. The rest are mediocre.

OVERALL (C-)

Frost Flurries had a pretty solid draft until the later rounds when he decided to go to the other side of the ball. I believe too many defensive players became draft targets for Coach Frost and it could hurt him later in the season with the lack of depth on the offensive side of things.

Superstars: Andre Johnson, Michael Turner

Garbage: Lance Moore, Sam Bradford

Sleepers: Mark Ingram, Pierre Garcon

Round 1 (A)-Andre Johnson is the best WR in the game. Coach Frost must have been thrilled to see him fall at #8 overall.

Round 2 (B)-Michael Turner on the way back up in round 2 was a nice choice, but he might be kicking himself for passing on Vick when it’s all said and done.

Round 3 (C)- Peyton Hillis will see more 8-in-the-box defensive packages this year than Chris Johnson. The only reason this is mention is because it usually takes 9 to stop CJ2K. A nice compliment to Turner, but depth could play a factor with this squad.

Round 4- (F)-Chad Ochocinco(Johnson) was a reach in the 4th round for coach Frost. Should have passed and waited a few more before this selection. Again, depth could play a big roll this year for Frost. Will he find enough talent in training camp, or will his season begin to crumble around November? Only time will tell…

Round 5- (D)-Mark Ingram was another reach this early in the draft. He needed depth for the RB & WR position and no doubt he will try to hold this guy for the restricted free agent spot next season. Good luck holding this stud.

Round 6-12 (D-)-Lance Moore will be a bust, Sam Bradford as well. Too many defensive players taken way too early. Got a steal on Pierre Garcon is the the only reason to not give him an F.

OVERALL (B)

Rhodes Runners GM T. L. Rhodes preached about returning from Boot Hill and bringing back the winning formula. With this draft class, he will need a new formula after the garbage he began to drag in after round three. By definition of a “winning formula”, where in this formula does it say to draft three kickers?

Superstars: Calvin Johnson, Vernon Davis, Frank Gore

Garbage: Steve Breaston, Ryan Fitzpatrick

Sleepers: Greg Little, Jacob Tamme

Round 1 (B)-Frank Gore tends to be injured a few games each year and he is not getting any younger. I look for his numbers to fall slightly this year.

Round 2 (A)-Calvin Johnson was a stud last year, and should continue to dominate again this season. Great choice.

Round 3 (C)- Knowshon Moreno was banged up most of last season but has some room to grow. He should get a good amount of looks in the first half of every game until Denver is trailing on the scoreboard.

Round 4- (C-)-Josh Freeman was in the top ten last year in terms of QB scoring and I am not sure how it happened. This is a risky choice to lead a team that’s looking to rebuild. I believe the front office made a mistake with Freeman. Someone with alittle more experience should have been leading this team.

Round 5- (C)-Vernon Davis was a top threat last year even on a pathetic offensive team. The weapons still look pretty much the same, so look for him to hit his averages.

Round 6-12 (D) Greg Little was chosen late as a potential free agent next season and Tim Hightower should be solid, but beyond that, the rest are mediocre at best.

Projected Results
Global Division standings 2011

Zima Ruskies – 9-5
Rhodes Runners – 8-6
Temps Texas Boys – 7-7
Frost Flurries – 6-8
